Hi, my name is Daniel. In 2024 I was diagnosed with liver cancer. Not caused by an unhealthy lifestyle — but by a dormant hepatitis B infection that was passed from my mother to me at birth.
Since then I've been through multiple liver surgeries, chemotherapy, local treatments and fifteen cycles of immunotherapy. Despite all of it, the cancer has kept coming back aggressively.
Today, a living donor liver transplant is my only chance of being cured.
My latest scan showed another aggressive tumor — but the good news is that there is no evidence the cancer has spread outside my liver. If it spreads beyond the liver, a transplant is no longer an option. A cure is no longer an option.
The transplant process for my situation in the Netherlands is taking longer than my doctors and I can safely afford, because of how aggressively the cancer is recurring. I am sitting on a ticking time bomb, and I don't have the luxury of waiting until the local process eventually catches up with the urgency of my disease.
After carefully reviewing every option with my medical team, I've decided to continue the transplant process in Turkey. My hospital in the Netherlands is already working together with Turkish doctors, and this route gives us the possibility to move much faster — while transplantation is still medically possible.
Unfortunately, this treatment is not covered by my health insurance.
If you know me, you'll know I've always believed that if something in my life needed fixing, it was my responsibility to figure it out. I've never liked asking for help, especially when it comes to money.
I've realized that taking responsibility now doesn't mean trying to do everything by myself. It means doing everything I possibly can to stay alive, even if that requires putting my ego and pride aside and asking for help.
The goal of this fundraiser is €285,000. The money will be used for:
• Transplant surgery
• Donor surgery
• Pre-screening donor evaluation
• Hospitalization and medication
• Travel and accommodation
• Follow-up care, recovery and a buffer for any unexpected medical complications
*The donor receives no payment whatsoever (worldwide regulations). The costs listed cover the donor's medical evaluation, surgery, hospitalization and follow-up care, not payment to the donor. Everyone who donates deserves complete transparency.
I'm not asking you to cure my cancer. No one can promise me that. I'm asking for time.
Time to keep living. Time to keep working. Time to keep showing up for the people I love.
If you can donate, thank you. If donating isn't possible, sharing this page with others could make an enormous difference.
Thank you for giving me a second chance at a beautiful life.
Much love,
— Daniel

The oncologist confirmed the 6-round chemo protocol starting November 3rd. Daniel's spirits are good. The kids drew her a card she keeps on the fridge.

Praying for strength, healing and every ounce of hope through this. Glioblastoma is brutal, but so is your fight. Your wife and kids are the luckiest.

Daniel, we don't know each other but my mom beat the same diagnosis 8 years ago. She's at my son's soccer game right now. There is hope. Hold on.
